I just finished this illustration for Jim Brooks at the L.A. Times the other day. Mark Kleiman wrote a very thoughtful, and realistic
essay about the problems with legalizing the recreational use of marijuana in California. The gist of it: a state law ending the prohibition would conflict with federal law, and Uncle Sam wouldn't allow it, due to some unintended consequences.
Although ending the prohibition of marijuana makes sense (it's certainly better than wasting time and money on law enforcement, and incarcerating people possessing a product less harmful than alcohol), it would have to be done on a federal level first. Thanks again, Jim!
